Reach the Analysis screen from MarkBook's Main Operating Screen, section 3-1, by clicking on a selected
item in the lower half of the main screen and then on the
Entry XX Analysis button at the lower left. Use this Analysis screen to determine the strengths and weaknesses of individual students on specific parts or types of
given assessments. Also use this screen to gauge the validity of sections of your
assessment instruments.
This teacher has
selected the Section Data tab in the row near the top of the screen. This
is an analysis for a test with six sections - see the SECTION DESCRIPTIONS box at the upper right.
MarkBook provides an opportunity to divide any
assessment into as many as twelve parts. See section 7-3 in this
manual for details on how to set up sections for an
assessment.
Each student's grade within each section is displayed in the
scrollable spreadsheet grid in the center. If a student is more than 10% under the class average for that section, an asterisk appears beside their grade. Note that student
#10 is well below the class average on the first three
sections. The "trigger value" for an asterisk, currently
set at 10% as supplied by default, can be changed in MarkBook's setup, section 7-1.
Details on the class performance are given in the box at the lower right currently titled
Fill In The Blanks. To select another section, click on it in the SECTION DESCRIPTIONS box just above.
Remediation candidates become
obvious in this analysis. If you decided to re-teach Force Graph (section c of the test) to a subset of the class, which students would you choose?
Obviously, students who failed the test, like #5 and #10, should be given extra
help. However, if you select only those individuals who failed the test, student
#19 (who passed the test with 52 out of 82) would be missed. Despite a pass on the test,
this student clearly needs help on Force Graphs - note the asterisk and low mark on section
c.
Validity
of Sections becomes apparent in this analysis. One or more sections
may have a very low average. To fix, go back to the entry heading and lower the Out
of or base mark for this section. Another alternative is to edit the base for
that section to zero and then
edit
each student's mark to a NoMark. This wipes out the section as if never done. Or
go to the Heading for this assessment and make the section a bonus section
so that any grade earned is added on top of the results for the other four
sections.
There are several other optional displays presented in the tab bar at the top:
Summary, Distribution, Seating, and Print. Click on any of these to move to other displays of this single entry analysis. The Print tab will
move to the following screen. Select print options from this screen and click
the Print button near the lower right corner. Note that the number of pages
required displays in red near the upper right of this image. See the sample in
section 7-8.
