MarkBook® section 3-3
Anecdotal Notes
MarkBook has the ability to keep a running anecdotal record for each student. Export these records, individually or collectively, to your word processor for formatting and printing. While you could track all students with this
Anecdotal Notes tool, it
is intended to keep a recorded history for those few individuals who are having difficulty or
are behaving inappropriately.

From the Main Operating Screen, section 3-1, click on the Anecdotal Notes button
to the left of the student names in the upper half of the screen. You will get this recording box.

Use the toggles to
the right of the current student's name to select any student in the class.
Move your cursor to your desired screen location and press the Crtl and D keys simultaneously to insert today's date into the box. MarkBook will use your specified date format from Setup. Similarly, press Ctrl-N to insert the current student's first name -
Meg in this example. Note that MarkBook has a spell
checker running in this window - a red squiggle underlines any word
not found in the dictionary.
MarkBook CNX,
described in section 1-4, also collects Anecdotal Notes on a PDA.
After the next synchronization, any PDA notes will appear in the lower part of
this screen. Incorporate these additional notes into the main note above.
Click on Save and Return to return to the previous screen. TIP: Click your Enter key twice after typing the last notation. This will enable you to move easily to
the next blank entry line when you re-open this student's Anecdotal Notes screen.

The View menu lets you specify how you want the text displayed on screen.
Select preferred options as desired.
The Send To menu lets you export
all accumulated text to Microsoft's Notepad or to your word processor. In the latter case,
spell check and format the entire note prior to printing. In MarkBook's Setup,
you may specify a path directly to your word processor's execute file. This
means that with one click, MarkBook will launch your word processor and load the selected data.
This optional Anecdotal Notes tool is entirely independent of your MarkBook assessment records and attendance records. When you back up your class files as in section 3-2, your current anecdotal notes will be copied into the backup file.
