MarkBook® section 6-3
Seating Plan Attendance Entry & Analysis

Reach this screen from MarkBook's Attendance Grid screen, section 6-2, by clicking on the Seating tab at the top center. If you select this screen as your attendance default in Setup, it will appear whenever you click any Attendance button.

This is a class with students arranged as per the teacher's seating plan, section 5-4. Note that the first names and surname initials are shown.

Attendance Entry Using the Seating Plan Screen

This attendance screen requires that your seating plan, section 5-4, be built. Enter attendance data from this screen by clicking once on any student's cell for your first default attendance code (Absent in this example), or a second click for your second default (Late in this example). A third click will remove the late and record the student as present. Note in the example that three students were single-clicked absent for this date and one was double-clicked late. The words "Absent" or "Late" or your custom codes appear under the clicked name(s). The last name clicked is always highlighted in blue. This screen is particularly handy for teachers using MarkBook on a computer in their classrooms.

Attendance pattern analysis features are available. Specify the beginning month and the ending month using the Summary menus at the top right. The Range can be altered to summarize all attendance data recorded for the entire month or for the entire period covered by your Summary selections. In case you wish to examine another month other than the current one, the Month can be altered using the pop-down menu at the upper left.

Attendance Analysis Box The Show button allows you to select a subset of the class that meets one of four criteria. For instance, if you click on the "Late only" button in Show box and "Aug. '03 to Jul. '04" is checked in the Range box, only those students with one or more lates since the start of the academic year will show on the screen and their totals will appear below their names.

When any range other than one day is selected, click on any student's name and a yellow attendance analysis window will appear on top of the seating plan grid (sample at the right) giving all dates absent and late, the "value" of each, and a summary showing which days of the week were involved. Chronic attendance patterns show up well in this manner. The student in this example has a "Wednesday" problem! Click the Late cell to show the pattern, if any, for tardiness.

Click on the Grid for ... tab at the upper left to go to the Attendance Grid Screen, section 6-2. Attendance data can be entered using either screen.

To edit seating, click on the Edit Seating button at the lower right which will take you to the seating plan screen, section 5-4.

To print, click on the Print tab at the upper right. Sample attendance printouts, section 6-4, are available in this document.

When done, click Save. All entered data will save automatically. The saved data will appear in the grid cells in the other attendance entry screen, section 6-2.

Manual: Go to section 6-4 to view sample printouts for use in your school's attendance system.
