MarkBook® section 7-4
Mark/Grade Entry Screen

Reach this screen by clicking on the Next button in the New Entry screen, section 7-3. Or, click the Data In button in the lower half of the main operating screen. Use this screen to enter/edit marks/grades in each student's record. Enter your assessment data as numbers, levels, or letter grades.

SINGLE SECTION ENTRY
On this sample screen is a fictitious class with data being entered for a single assessment without sections. Reach this screen by clicking the Next button as shown in section 7-2. You also get this screen using the Update button as described in section 7-5. Type a number in the entry cell (next to the 10 at the left). Select or type a Remark (blank is default) if you wish. When finished, push the down arrow to move to the next student. If the [Enter] key selects the next name cell at the lower center is checked, the Enter key will also move to the next student. Note that two students have a Zero! recorded and another has a NoMark recorded. When finished, click Save.

Mark Entry Screen

The Round Off button at the lower left will cause the percentage column to show integers. If unchecked, the column will show a percentage to the nearest single decimal. The Check Max button will warn you if a mark higher than the Out Of is entered. If checked, the Display 'Level' Buttons cell will put your selected ABC or Levels grid on the screen. Click any cell on the grid to enter a mark.

Note that there are some statistics immediately above the student list. These update automatically as you enter the data.

If the Names only cell is checked at the lower center, the student list is different. This view is handy for a large class when you are updating marks and want to click an individual quickly without scrolling. The same applies if you are entering data from a pile of assessment items in random order. However, if entering data from an alpha list, Names plus ... is likely a better display. The latter also calculates and displays a conversion percentage for each mark.

Flood a Mark enters the same number for all students. Clear All removes all entered marks. Notes accesses the Anecdotal Notes screen.

MULTI-SECTION ENTRY
On this sample screen is a fictitious science class. The teacher has finished entering the results of entry #23 - Work/Energy Test. In this example, the teacher has previously subdivided this assessment into six separate component sections using the Entry Classification Screen, section 7-3. This includes a Bonus section. While most assessments will be single items (i.e. NO sections or parts), MarkBook can divide any assessment entry into sections and treat any of these as a bonus.

NUMERIC
MULTI SECTION ENTRY
When this screen opens, the windows in the left box are blank and the right half of the screen has all of the students' names. The current student is identified at the left. Fill in the student results in the cells in the left half. Enter decimals as commas e.g. 14,8 or as decimals e.g. 14.8 and MarkBook will treat such entries identically. When each student's entry is complete, click the scroll class toggle in the lower center, OR click the down key on your keyboard, OR click the Enter key. The next student's name will appear in the left box and the entry cells will be blank.

The Remark field can be filled in at any time and edited later if necessary. Refer to section 7-1 for details on setting up custom Remarks.

For Fastest Entry on single-section assessments: enter the numbers with your left hand and then click the down key on your keyboard with your right hand. For multi-section entry, use your mouse or the Enter key to move vertically from cell to cell and then use the down arrow to move to the next student.

When all data has been entered, click on Save. A prompt will appear to warn of any missing data. Once back to the main operating screen, repeat this process for each assessment.

LETTER GRADE
and LEVEL ENTRY:
Many teachers assess with letter grades or levels and wish to key in their data in this format. With MarkBook, letter grade or level entry is easy. If you wish to edit MarkBook's supplied defaults, set up your letter grades/levels as in section 7-1.

If one checks the Display 'ABC' Buttons cell, as in section 7-2 or section 7-3, this variation of the data input screen will automatically appear. Note the new twelve-cell grid at the left. In this case, the teacher is using letter grades after editing the grid in section 7-1. Also note that the Use mid-ranges cell underneath the grid is checked on.

Letter Grade & Level Assessment Entry Screen

Enter each student's grade several ways:

To change the conversion percentages in this Letter Grade Input chart, go to Set Up in section 7-1. Changes made in Setup will affect only that data entered after the change was made. If you wish to change older data, go to the Update Screen, section 7-5. In the following example, the teacher has defined 16 levels. Note that there are three Remedial levels in this entry grid.

When finished entering assessment results using any method above, click Save and MarkBook will store your data as well as calculate new overall grades.

DELETING AN ENTRY:
There are three ways to remove unwanted entries.
