MarkBook® section 7-5
Update/Change Marks Screen

Reach this screen from the main operating screen, section 3-1 by clicking on the Update button at the lower left. Or, click on any student mark in the mark record grid screen, section 8-3. This Update screen enables a change to any entry (mark/grade) for any student on any previously-entered assessment. When you click on Save, all updated data will be automatically saved into your class data file/folder. Overall grades, averages, medians and modes will automatically update as well.

On the right side of this screen are two scroll bar windows to locate any student and any assessment. Use the mouse to scroll and click on the desired student and assessment. Note that the Round Off cell at the lower left is not checked and data displays to one decimal place as a result. Some statistics on the selected item appear at the upper left.

Mark/Grade Update Screen

To change an entry, click in the white window where the student's current mark appears - 31.5 in this example. The number to the left of this window is the base or "Out Of" for this item - 40 in this example. Type the replacement or click a cell on the grid. If there's no mark for this item, the white box will be empty and the word 'NoMark' appears at the upper right beside the student's name. If zero, a "0" appears with the word 'Zero!' at the upper right. After typing in all updates, press Enter and click on Save.  All changes will save to your mark/grade data file. You will be returned to the previous screen.

TIP: MarkBook summarizes both the number of "Zeros" and the number of "No Marks" entered for each student. Zeros are considered "incomplete" items and will be reported as such. If a student has earned a zero, and has no opportunity to re-do that item, we suggest entering 0.1 as the mark. Then, this assessment will no longer be counted by MarkBook as an incomplete item.

In the lower left of the screen are three square check cells. The Round Off cell converts the mark/grade in the upper right Class List scroll window to an integer percentage for display purposes. It does NOT alter the mark entered. When this cell is off (unchecked), the percentages are shown to one decimal place. When the Check Max cell is "on", MarkBook will warn you if you type in a mark in excess of the base for that assessment. We recommend that you leave this Check Max button on. Entering a grade greater than the "Out Of" is another way of creating a bonus. The 'Level' Buttons cell, if checked, enables entry by clicking on any cell in the grid. Note that assessment #22 is a deleted item as indicated by the << >> brackets.

Manual: Go to section 7-6 to see how MarkBook adjusts the values/weights of each category and/or each entry once marks/grades have been entered.
