MarkBook Comment Bank Printouts

Print your comment banks to give easier access to those comments available. Each bank is restricted to 7500 comments but there's no limit as to the number of banks.

The file called comment.bnk has each comment classified into a TYPE category such as ACH for achievement, ART for Art, etc. Each is also identified with a Level such as positive (+), or negative (-), or strength (STR), or area for improvement (IMP), or next steps (NXT). Each of these classifiers is restricted to five letters or numbers. Use a multi-level classification such as 1,2,3,4 to further subdivide these categories. The image shown here is a portion of the first page of a total of thirty printed pages including all 1296 comments in this bank. Other TYPE categories (not shown) include other subjects (e.g. BUS, DRA, MAT, PHY, SCI, etc.) and other LEVEL performance indicators (EFF for effort, HAB for habits, LSK for learning skills, etc.). This is part of the generic bank already installed in your MarkBook directory.

Printout of some of MarkBook's comments.bnk bank

MarkBook lets you add comments, delete comments, or edit these comments as your needs dictate - see section 10-4. The maximum number MarkBook will store is 7500 per bank. If you wish, delete subject-specific comments that pertain to subjects you do not teach. However, do NOT delete comments from a networked banks - your colleagues may be using these!

The comments are set up to substitute/merge each student's first name and gender pronouns into the selected comment using special characters. To do this, the comment file uses "$" to merge a first name, "#" to merge his/her, "@" to merge he/she, "*" to merge him/her, and "~" to merge son/daughter. When you add your own comments to this file, use these same characters to merge your new comment with any student's report. Use the procedures described in section 10-3 and section 10-5.

If you wish, use MarkBook's comment editor to print your comment bank(s). This facilitates merging comments into each student's report by typing the comment number (left column in this printout)! The key to MarkBook's comment system is to avoid repetitive typing. Also, add any custom comments that you use frequently into the bank.

Manual: Go to section 10-3 to see how to select comments for individual students.
