MarkBook® section 9-7
Combined Subject Report Card

This report is a take-home Multi-Subject report card for an individual student. In this fictitious sample, the teacher has the same class for five academic subjects.

Combined Subject Report Card

Produce this report card from the main operating screen by selecting Reports at the top and clicking on Combined Mark Sets. Or, click the Combined Report button on the main operating screen. Just like any other MarkBook report, this one can be generated at any time. This report is particularly useful for teachers who have the same students for several subjects. Or, use it for multiple Mark Sets. Teachers who have each student for one subject will use the individual Student Subject Report, section 9-6, unless they wish to take advantage of the extra classification level afforded by these Combined Reports. See the combined subject screen, section 8-2, for some suggestions on how to build and print this report.

The following information is provided on this dated report:

The comparison to class average as a + or - integer may not always seem mathematically correct. This is because MarkBook calculates each number, stores it to six decimal places, then rounds off that calculation for report/display purposes. Consequently, a student grade of 68.61365% and a class average of 67.31365% are rounded off and reported as 69% and 67% respectively - a 2% difference. Yet mathematically, the difference is only ~1.3% which MarkBook calculates and correctly rounds off to 1%. The maximum "error" that can appear in this "comparison to class average" is 1%. If the option to print one decimal place is used, then the maximum "error" will be 0.1%.

Suggestions for Use: This report card has proven to be a powerful motivational tool especially if sent home frequently. We suggest once a month for the entire class and more frequently (copies to administration!) for problem students. Encourage students to compare the report with their own records, as this student is doing, and to identify any discrepancies to you. Student planners have a mark/grade record section - encourage your students to use it! Good record keeping requires cognitive skill growth and development of a value system - an affective objective that should be included in your course objectives.

Once your students know that you can easily produce this report, three positive changes happen:

If you have time, post a Code Name Class Report, section 8-7, for each subject a few days before sending this combined report home - students will scramble to hand in late items and they have a warning about their current status.

Manual: Go to section 10-1 to see details on MarkBook's ability to construct and transfer detailed anecdotal comments.
