Landscape Seating Plan Sample Printout

MarkBook prints seating plans like these on standard paper sizes such as A4, 8.5 X 11, and 8.5 X 14. The first two are in "Portrait" orientation. The distortion in this screen sample is from scanning & shrinking - your printouts will be crisp!

To print a seating plan/chart in "Landscape" orientation, go to Windows Control Panel, select your printer and click Printer Setup or Properties. Click Landscape. Click OK to save this setting. Return to MarkBook and all forms will print in Landscape orientation. Be sure to re-set this orientation back to Portrait after you are finished! Or, go to MarkBook's Setup, select Printer Options, and select the Show Printer Dialogue Box. Now, each time you print, you'll have the opportunity to set the printer options just before printing.

These printouts have many uses in class management. See the notes about the Grid below. The photo printout is particularly useful at the start of the school year as you are getting to know student names. It’s also a confidence booster for supply/substitute teachers.

If you wish to alter your seating plan, MarkBook stores the last class configuration (# of rows & seats/row) and seat assignments (who sits where!) that you used for this class. It takes only seconds to re-arrange using the seating plan screen in section 5-4. Once re-arranged, print an updated plan.

Suggestion for use: build your first seating plan for each class prior to the first class of the semester. Enjoy the calming effect that this has on your class! Tell your students that you will move them if they are unhappy or too happy in their present locations! When you feel that it is appropriate, re-arrange and re-print.

Choose whether or not to include the optional 25-cell recording Grid under each name and the numbered, 25-line, description box (numbered 26 to 50 horizontally in this example) to describe the contents of each cell. The cells could be used to record/store such items as

The cells could also record uniform checks for a month or attendance for a month. While your use will not likely include all of these, this grid plan provides an excellent heads-up display. It enables you to tell at a glance if any student has not completed one or more assessments or is missing some other necessary item e.g. a parent permission form for the upcoming field trip.

Manual: Go to section 5-6 to see how to store information on texts & loaned items.
