MarkBook® section 11-2

MarkBook Transfer to Maplewood

It takes five to ten minutes per class to move grades, learning skills, and the text of all comments from MarkBook to Maplewood using the multi tasking technique described below. Classes rosters should be synchronized with Maplewood as described in section 4-7 and section 4-8.

Prepare a MarkBook comment for each student as described in section 10-4 through section 10-8. Then, at report card submission time, launch Maplewood and go to the Classroom Manager data entry screen as shown in the background of the image below. Select a class for data entry like the Mathematics class in this example. Grab the edges of this Maplewood frame and reduce its size on your computer screen to a fraction of the desktop.

Launch MarkBook, open the matching class, click Comments in the upper menu bar, and select Transfer Mode. This automatically reduces MarkBook to a fraction of the desktop screen as well. With your mouse, grab the dark bar at the top of either MarkBook or Maplewood to move these two frames to convenient positions on the desktop as shown below. Now you're ready to move data between the two software applications.

Use the toggles at the upper right of the MarkBook screen (beside Marilyn in the above example) to scroll from student to student. Click in the data entry cell on Maplewood to type in the MarkBook grade - 71 in this example. If you have recorded Learning Skills as categories, you can type in an appropriate letter on the learning skills screen (not shown). Then, click the Comments cell in the Maplewood screen. This alters the Maplewood screen as per the next image but the Comment for Accumulated Mark window will be blank.

As per the image above, click the Copy button in MarkBook to the right of the comment. This puts the text of the comment into the computer's clipboard. Click the mouse once in Maplewood's Comment for Accumulated Mark window and Paste (hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and touch the letter V). The entire text of the comment will transfer as per the image above. Select the next student in Maplewood and in MarkBook, and repeat this data entry process.

If you are using Levels instead of Weighted Averages, select Blended Modes for this class and MarkBook will present data calculated that way. Note that Marilyn's weighted mode of 3 is displayed above her comment. Enter a number in Maplewood's Mark column that corresponds to level 3 achievement.
